MOBILE, Ala. – The Bulldogs (6-11, 2-2 SWAC) will take part in their third straight game away from home as they face rival Alabama State for the first of two meetings on Monday in Mobile. The matchup is part of the Bridge Builder Classic on Martin Luther King Jr. Day inside the Mitchell Center.
The event also features two high school basketball games prior to the college contest, a halftime battle of the bands and a live performance included in the festivities. It is also the first of a six-year deal to host the Alabama A&M and Alabama State rivalry.
A&M has dropped a pair of SWAC games on the road after starting 2-0 in conference play but look to get back on track to win their second straight game against the rival Hornets. The Bulldogs won the last meeting 80-65 over ASU (2/6/22) inside of Elmore Gymnasium.
Garrett Hicks (Madison, Ala.) leads the team in scoring at 14.9 points, followed by
Dailin Smith (Colorado Springs, Co.) and
Messiah Thompson (Atlanta, Ga.) as the other double figure scorers on the year at 10.8 and 10.6 points per contest respectively.
Alabama State (4-13, 2-2 SWAC) comes into the meeting also on a two-game losing streak, after falling to both Jackson State (Jan. 7) and Alcorn State (Jan. 9). The Hornets currently average over 65 points per game on the year, and 71 points in conference play.
