MACON, Ga. – The Alabama A&M women's tennis team (1-1, 0-0 SWAC) dropped their first game of the season, 6-1, in an early road non-conference meeting against Mercer on Saturday morning held inside the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.
A&M were swept in doubles play, as pairing of
Deja Brown (Spring Valley, Calif.) and
Ariadna Ondo Cerezo (Valencia, Spain) falling 6-2 at No. 3, followed by
Neha Ghare (Pune, India) and
Alicia Owegi (Nairobi, Kenya) were swept at the No. 2 spot. In the remaining doubles match,
Jasmine Boyd (Marion, Ind.) and
Yana Dhamija (Gurugram, India) trailed 5-1 in their pairing.
Boyd took the first singles match to get the Bulldogs on the board, yet Owegi and Ghare dropped their sets at the No. 5 and No. 2 spots by scores of 6-1, 6-2 and 6-4, 6-1 respectively.
Shortly after, Brown dropped her singles match. 6-3, 6-1 at the third spot, before Dhamija fell in a three-set match and Ondo Cerezo dropped at the sixth spot to give Mercer the 6-1 home win.

The Bulldogs will return to play next month as they face Southeastern Conference opponent Mississippi State in Starkville on Friday, February 10. The match is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. inside the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
