Men’s Basketball Hits Road Against Alcorn State for First Conference Road Game

HUNTSVILLE – Alabama A&M (6-9, 2-0 SWAC) men's basketball will play their third game this week as they hit the road to face Alcorn State (3-10, 0-1 SWAC) on Saturday, January 7. Tip-off inside the Davey L. Whitney Complex is set for 4 p.m.
 
The Bulldogs are coming off a 75-68 comeback win at home against Mississippi Valley State (Jan. 4), as they outscored the Delta Devils 41-28 in the second half. Garrett Hicks (Madison, Ala.) led the way for A&M with a team-high 23 points, followed by Olisa Blaise Akonobi (Abuja, Nigeria) who added 13 points in the contest.
 
Alcorn State comes in on a seven-game skid, including a 67-66 conference loss against Jackson State (Jan. 2) in their last game. Saturday's matchup is just the fourth home contest of the season for the Braves.

GAME NOTES
  • After a pair of home wins, the Bulldogs start 2-0 in conference play for the second time in the last three seasons. They are also looking to earn their first road win of the year.
  • A&M is outshooting opponents on the year with splits of 44.4 percent from the field, 41.6 percent from three-point range and 67.8 percent from the free throw line. Meanwhile, eight Bulldogs average at least ten minutes per game, while ten different players have started a game.
  • Three Bulldogs have double figure scoring averages on the year, led by Hicks with 16.2 points per contest, followed by Dailin Smith (Colorado Springs, Co.) at 10.5 and Messiah Thompson (Atlanta, Ga.) at 10.2 per game.
  • Hicks earned SWAC Impact Player of the week to start league play, averaging 21.0 points per game while shooting 60 percent from the field and 71 percent from beyond the arc. He also added 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals, and 2.5 assists per game while helping lead the Bulldogs to the 2-0 start in SWAC play.
