Smothers Tabbed Assistant AD for Operations

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | Alabama A&M University Director of Athletics, Dr. Paul A. Bryant, announced on Wednesday the addition of Roderick Smothers as the new Assistant Athletic Director for Operations.

"We are grateful to add an experienced administrator to our team," Bryant said. "He is knowledgeable about each area that will prove to be a catalyst for our growth."

Before taking the position at Alabama A&M, Smothers served as the Director of Athletics at Philander Smith College where he managed and led all facets of the Athletic Department to include corporate sponsorships, revenue generation and day to day operations.

During that timeframe Philander Smith College had one of the most successful runs in school history, winning five championships and two Commissioner's Cups, which highlights the most successful Athletic Departments in the Conference.

In addition to being the Director of Athletics, Smothers was voted to serve as the President of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference. As the President, he represented the conference as a board member for the Athletic Director's Association (ADA).

Smothers earned his Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism from Langston University, and a Master's Degree in Sports Management from University of the Southwest in Hobbs, New Mexico.
