NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Alabama A&M softball team concluded weekend play with a pair of games on Sunday, falling to North Alabama 8-4 and host Tennessee State 11-1 as part of the Roar City Classic.

North Alabama 8, Alabama A&M 4
The Lions got on the board in the bottom of the first inning in game one, on an RBI double to left center before adding a pair of runs in the second to go up 3-0.

Alabama A&M scored their first run in the bottom of the third, as
Faith Cross (Pulaski, Tenn.) was hit by a pitch to get on base and was driven home by
Venice Sanders (Birmingham, Ala.) on a double down the left field line.

After another sore in the top of the fourth, North Alabama extended their lead with four more runs in the top of the seventh off six hits in the frame. In the bottom half of the inning, Sanders knocked out a three-run homer to score
Allyson Riches (San Diego, Calif.) and
Taylor Woods (Decatur, Ala.), however fell short of the comeback bid, falling 8-4.

Sanders also started the game on the mound for A&M, pitching for six innings and allowing seven runs off ten hits on the day, while
Sydney Hall (Russellville, Ala.) pitched the final inning of play, allowing three hits and one run.

Tennessee State 11, Alabama A&M 1
Alabama A&M struggled at the plate in game two on Sunday, as they were held scoreless for the first three innings to find themselves trailing 4-0 heading into the fourth.

Serena Herbranson (Hemet, Calif.) got the Bulldogs on the board with a single to drive in
Imani Mathis (Elk Grove, Calif.) who pinch ran for
Abigail Barnes (Huntsville, Ala.) who singled earlier in the inning.

From there, the Tigers added seven more runs over the next two innings, ending the game in the bottom of the fifth by run rule.

Hebranson was the lone Bulldog with multiple hits in the game, going 2-for-2 at the plate along with scoring a run.
Paige Scott (British Columbia, Canada) picked up the loss on the mound, while
Krista Sikes (Russellville, Ala.) came in for relief.

The Bulldogs resume play next weekend in Montgomery as part of the HBCU Heritage Classic, hosted by Alabama State. Alabama A&M is scheduled to play South Carolina State, Southern, Alcorn State, and Florida A&M in a span of three days.
