HUNTSVILLE, Ala. __ Coming off a tough loss at home on Monday, Coach Otis Hughley and his Alabama A&M men's basketball squad will look to pick up a rivalry road matchup in Montgomery to face rival Alabama State, scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tip inside the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
The Bulldogs (12-16, 8-7 SWAC) currently rank fifth in the SWAC standings, trailing Jackson State by just one game in the loss column, while also being one game ahead of both Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M who are both at 7-8.
Offensively, A&M continues to show offensive prowess in league play, ranking second in the league in scoring (71.0), field goal percentage (.444), while leading the SWAC in three-point percentage (.377).
Garrett Hicks (Madison, Ala.) ranks eighth in the individual scoring ranks at 13.6 points per contest, while
Dailin Smith (Colorado Springs, Co.) and
Messiah Thompson (Atlanta, Ga.) also average double figure marks at 10.5 and 10.2 points respectively.
Alabama State (8-20, 6-9 SWAC) come into the rivalry matchup after dropping three straight games with losses to Mississippi Valley State (Feb. 13), Florida A&M (Feb. 18), and Bethune-Cookman (Feb. 20). ASU is also looking to finish the year with a winning record at home, as they currently stand at 5-4 inside the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
