HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Head coach
Margaret Richards and her program will hold a pair of Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) contests over the next few days, starting on Saturday with Southern, followed by Grambling State on Monday evening both inside the Event Center.
Alabama A&M (8-11, 6-3 SWAC) comes into the weekend as part of a five-way tie in the conference standings, after dropping both games on the trip to Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman last week, dropping them down from atop the rankings.
Toni Grace (Fishers, Ind.) and
Amani Free (Clay, N.Y.) remain steady contributors for the Bulldogs on the year, both currently in the top-15 in scoring in the conference at 12.1 and 11.5 points per game.
Southern (9-11, 6-3) is also tied with the Bulldogs in the standings, after dropping their last game against Jackson State, 64-57, last Saturday in Baton Rouge. The Jaguars are led by Genovea Johnson and Amani Mcwain who average 11.8 and 10.1 points respectively as the lone players to average double figures. SU has dropped three of the last five meetings against the Bulldogs, including the last two in Huntsville.
Meanwhile, Grambling State (5-15, 4-5 SWAC) enters weekend play in the bottom half of the SWAC rankings, losing their last three matchups. Colbi Maples leads the way offensive with 13.5 points per contest, followed by Leah Morrow and Phylicia Allen at 9.2 and 8.9 points per game on the year.
