Softball Shutout in First Game Against Bethune-Cookman

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. __ Alabama A&M softball dropped its SWAC opener on the road against Bethune-Cookman, 9-0, in five innings on Friday afternoon in the first of a three-game weekend series inside of Sunnyland Park.

After the Bulldogs left a runner on base in the opening inning, the Wildcats found their offense early, drawing a bases loaded walk to score their first run, followed by a double to drive in two more runs before the close of the frame.

Bethune-Cookman got another two runners across the plate in the second, with a single to lead off the bottom half of the inning resulting in scores on an RBI triple to left.

A&M got another runner on in the top of third, as Natalie Picado was hit by a pitch, however she could not advance. In the same inning, the Wildcats got two of their first three batters in scoring position, capitalizing on an infield single. Before the close of the third, BCU added one more run on a second bases loaded walk, making the score 8-0.

Bethune-Cookman retired the side again in the top of the fourth before scoring their final run for the 9-0 win.

Brooklyn Wallace earned the lone hit for A&M on the day, as the Bulldogs got just three runners on base in the contest. Meanwhile, both Sydney Hall and Krista Sikes spent time in the circle, with Hall starting the game and surrendering five runs, while Sikes worked three innings in relief.
