HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Alabama A&M dropped the series finale of the rivalry meeting with Alabama State by a score of 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Bulldog Baseball Field, the sixth straight loss for the Bulldogs.
The Hornets jumped out to an early lead with a run in the top of the first inning on a passed ball, before taking control of the game with runs in the third, fifth and seventh to gain a 5-0 edge.
The Bulldogs got on the board in the bottom of the seventh, with consecutive singles to start the inning from
Chandler Stocking and
Chevalier Dorris. Stocking later scored as Dorris was caught stealing second.
Â
A&M starterÂ
Noah Whitted had a tough afternoon, giving up four runs on ten hits in 4.2 innings of work to fall to 2-2 on the season.
Jason Marono worked 4.1 innings out of the bullpen, allowing a pair of runs on six hits, while striking out four in the contest.
ASU starter Shadai Colon put in a good day on the mound, allowing just two hits and one run in six innings to improve to 2-0. Meanwhile, Jorhan LaBoy earned the save, working the final three frames.
Â
Stocking was the main offensive source in the contest for Alabama A&M, earning a hit and scoring the lone run, while Dorris was the only other batter to record a hit in the game as the Bulldogs struggled mightily at the plate.
It was a balanced effort offensively for the Tigers, who had four different players drive in a run and six separate players finish with multiple hits.
Â
A&M will remain at home for their next matchup as they will host Tuskegee on Tuesday, April 4 at 2 p.m. in a midweek non-conference contest.
