Baseball Takes Friday Doubleheader Against Mississippi Valley to Win Final Series of Regular Season

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. __ Alabama A&M took their final series of the regular season on Friday, gaining both games of the doubleheader against Mississippi Valley State by scores of 4-3 and 5-3 at the Bulldog Baseball Field to close out Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play.
 
A&M was out hit by the Delta Devils ten to nine, however the Bulldogs came out with the tight win after taking the lead three different times in the game.
 
Mekhi Lloyd started the offense for A&M with a one-out single up the middle, followed by a walk from Tommy Easley and each with a stolen base to advance to second and third. Blake Martin singled on a 3-2 count on the next at-bat, driving in the first run to give the Bulldogs the 1-0 lead.
 
Mississippi Valley answered in the third inning with a pair of hits, including an RBI single and a walk to tie the game at 1-1, before the Lloyd singled again to start the bottom of the frame and later scored on an RBI double from Easley to give A&M the lead once more.
 
After another response from the Delta Devils in the fourth, the Bulldogs took the lead for good with one run in the bottom half of the inning. With one out, Chevalier Dorris doubled to center field and stole third during the at-bat from Chandler Stocking. Stocking later doubled on a 2-1 count to put the home team up 3-2. The Bulldogs added their final run of the contest in the sixth, as Stocking drove in Jalen Parker with a single. MVSU earned three hits and scored on an RBI double in the seventh, however left a pair of runners on base to close out the game.
 
Anthony Mateo was credited with the victory for Alabama A&M, going five innings and allowing two runs on six hits and striking out four. Evan Crenshaw threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
 
Azalius Lewis took the loss for the Delta Devils after surrendering two runs on six hits over three innings, striking out two and walking one.
 
The Bulldogs tallied nine hits on the day, with four batters finishing with multiple hits in the contest. Stocking led the way with a 2-for-4 day along with two RBI, while Easley and Martin drove in the two remaining runs.

Game two was also a tight win for A&M, gaining the lead late in the 5-3 win to take the series. The Bulldogs trailed 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning before Jared Tribett homered hit a grand slam, scoring four runs.
 
A&M won for the second straight game despite being out hit by Mississippi Valley, with the totals being 11 to seven in game two.
 
The Bulldogs got on the board in the second inning. Tribett drove the opening run in with a double to left field, bringing home Martin who drew a walk earlier in the frame.
 
The Delta Devils evened things up at one in the top of the third inning when Dreylin Holmes singled on the first pitch of the at bat, tying the game at 1-1. MVSU took a 3-1 lead in the fourth, starting with a one-out. double, followed by a pair of singles to drive in the run. The third run crossed the plate on a wild pitch with the bases loaded, giving the visitors a two-run edge.
 
After getting on with a fielder's choice play, Lloyd advanced to second on a single from Easley, before A&M found the bases loaded after Martin was hit by a pitch. Following a pitching change, Tribett hit the grand slam homer over the right field wall to give the Bulldogs control of the game for the remainder.
 
Jason Marono started the game for Alabama A&M, working five and two-thirds innings and allowing three runs on eight hits and striking out four.
 
Dimitri Stamatopoulos got the win out of the bullpen, while Jason Garcia, Noah Whitted, and Josue Espaillat also put in work in relief, steering the team towards the victory.
