Softball Falls to Florida A&M on Neutral Site in Season Finale

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Alabama A&M fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 7-4 loss to Florida A&M on Sunday afternoon in the regular season finale at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex.

The Rattlers got on the board early, scoring on a pair of RBI singles for their first two runs, followed by an RBI double  to right field to score the last two of the frame, giving FAMU a 4-0 lead.

Alabama A&M responded in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead, as Allyson Riches and Serena Herbranson drew walks before Venice Sanders hit her 10th homer of the season to pull within a run at 4-3.

The Rattlers continued to look strong offensively in the second, leading off with a bunt single and seeing the runner advance on two stolen bases before scoring on a sacrifice fly to make the score 5-3. Despite allowing four hits in the frame, Paige Scott got out of the inning with a strikeout with the bases loaded.

Florida A&M crossed the plate again in the third with a similar recipe, putting a runner on first with a single and stealing both second and third. The Rattlers took a 6-3 lead into the bottom half of the inning on one-out sac fly to center field.

The Bulldogs would add their final run in the bottom of the third, with a two-out solo shot from Sanders, who ended with four RBIs in the loss. Following Sanders' two hits were Brooklyn Wallace and Imani Mathis with one each for the four total hits in the contest.

Lauryn Peppers was the winning pitcher for FAMU, after pitching a complete game and surrendering four runs on three hits and striking out five.

Meanwhile, Scott (10-5) took the loss for Alabama A&M after allowing seven runs on 12 hits in her seven innings of work. The right hander finished with three strikeouts and just one walk.
