Huntsville, AL-Â The 13th annual Louis Crews Classic did not disappoint as the Alabama A&M Bulldogs defeated the Lane College Dragons 51-13. A first half full of turnovers and several miscues allowed Lane College to make it an interesting first two quarters in Louis Crews Stadium Saturday night as they only trailed 14-7 going into the locker room. However, the Bulldogs went into halftime and made some key adjustments which sparked a second half explosion and ultimately led to a victory over the Dragons.
The second half saw the Bulldogs apply constant pressure to Dragons Quarterback Polo Solomon forcing him to throw 3 interceptions. Defensive player of the game Emari Pait led the defensive efforts for the bulldogs with two interceptions, along with Marvin Smith leading the way in tackles with 10. The Bulldogs offense was led by running back Ryan Morrow who rushed for 191 yards and 3 touchdowns. Bulldog Quarterback Xavier Langford finished 15-19, 131 yards 2 touchdowns and 1 interception, with both touchdowns being caught by Senior Wide Receiver Cameron Young. Despite victory, Bulldogs Head Coach Connell Maynor expressed the need for the team to improve in all areas.Â
The Bulldogs improved to 1-1 on the season and will now look to open conference play with a victory over the Southern University Jaguars next weekend.
