Bulldogs Top Chargers on Friday Night

HUNSTVILLE, Ala. | Senior Kalia Walker scored a season-high 23 points as the Bulldogs topped the UAH Chargers 71-68 on Friday night. The Maroon and White improve to 3-2 on the season.  
 

Walker tied with Alisha Wilson for most rebounds with six each, and Wilson tied with Kourtney Rittenberry for the team-high steals, with four. Wilson and Rittenberry both scored in double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively,. Lauryn Pendleton scored 13 points and a team high five assists.  
 

Lili Wilken paced the Chargers with 19 points and a team-high five assists. Mia Hollingsworth added 16 points, 12 of them coming from behind the arc. Millie Brown added 12 of her 14 points from behind the three-point line. Haley Nichols added a game-high nine boards. 
 

HOW IT HAPPENED  

  • UAH jumped to a quick 5-2 lead before AAMU tied the contest at 9-9 

  • The Chargers added a pair of shots from beyond the arc to take a four-point lead  

  • UAH led at the conclusion of the first quarter, 16-13 

  • A pair of free throws from Walker put the Bulldogs within two at 15-16 

  • The Bulldogs trailed until a three-pointer from Walker gave AAMU the 24-21 lead 

  • Shelomi Sanders three-pointer gave the Maroon and White its largest lead of the half at 27-23 

  • A layup and jump shot from Woods put UAH back in control of the score at 31-27 with just over a minute remaining 

  • A layup from Walker and another three-pointer from Sanders gave AAMU a slim lead, but UAH went into the break with a one-point advantage (33-32) 

  • AAMU opened the second half with four straight points to prompt a Charger timeout 

  • UAH went on a 10-0 run out of the stoppage (43-36) 

  • AAMU trimmed the advantage to five from a steal from Burgin and layup from Walker 

  • Four straight points from Tia Harvey got the Bulldogs within three of the Chargers at the end of the third stanza, 49-52 

  • Alabama A&M opened the final frame with four unanswered points and took a two-point lead with eight minutes remaining 

  • AAMU trailed by a point with three and a half minutes to go  

  • A shot from behind the arc from Rittenberry put the Bulldogs in front by four (66-62) 

  • UAH got within two and then tied the contest at 68 all with 14 seconds remaining 

  • Walker sunk a three-pointer with five seconds left in the game to solidify the 71-68 victory 

GAME NOTES  

  • Alabama A&M shot 46.6 percent (27-of-58) from the field and 68.8 percent (11-of-16) from the free-throw line 

  • AAMU went 6-of-22 (27.3 percent) from behind the arc 

  • The Bulldogs grabbed 29 total rebounds, 20 of them on the defensive side of the ball 

  • Kalia Walker paced the Bulldogs with 23 points and six rebounds, while going 100% from the line and no turnovers 

  • Alisha Wilson tied for most rebounds with six, in addition to her 11 points  

  • Kourtney Rittenberry and Wilson each had four steals, while Rittenberry ppicked up an additional 10 points 

  • The Bulldogs finished with 10 bench points, 38 points in the paint, 19 fast break points and seven second chance points  

  • The Maroon and White scored 22 points off 20 Charger turnovers and logged 17 steals  

  • The Chargers shot 46.3 percent (25-of-54) from the field, 72.7 percent from the line (8-11) and 30.3 percent (10-of-33) from behind the arc 

  • UAH grabbed 35 rebounds and held the lead for 56.3 percent of the game (22 and a half minutes) 

  • Lili Wilken paced the Chargers with 19 points and a team-high five assists 

  • Mia Hollingsworth added 16 points, 12 of them coming from behind the arc  

  • Millie Brown added 12 of her 14 points from behind the three-point line 

  • Haley Nichols added a game-high nine boards 

  • The Chargers' largest lead was 11 points, which they held on to for almost four minutes

The Alabama A&M Bulldogs continue their eight-game road stretch as they travel to California for the San Diego Thanksgiving Classic. AAMU will face Utah Valley on November 29th and the University of San Diego the following day.
