Alabama A&M Seeks Road Victory against UAPB

THE HILL | The Alabama A&M University football team will look to snap a three-game road losing streak on Saturday as the Bulldogs visit Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) conference game. Kickoff against the Golden Lions is set for 2 p.m. from Simmons Bank Field.

Alabama A&M (3-5 overall, 1-3 SWAC) dropped its second straight game and first one this season at home last Saturday to Southern, 25-20. The Bulldogs, who finished with 381 total yards, nearly pulled off the come-from-behind victory. AAMU grabbed a 20-19 advantage after a Xavier Lankford 8-yard touchdown run with 3:42 left, but could not stop the Jaguars, who took a 25-20 advantage with 1:12 remaining. Alabama A&M drove to the SU 29, but a last gasp at the endzone fell short.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff (3-6, 2-3) also enters Saturday's game off a loss as the Golden Lions fell on the road to Jackson State, 41-3. UAPB was held to just 217 total yards of offense as quarterback Mekhi Hagens went 15 of 32 passing for 150 yards and one interception. He was also sacked four times.

The game will be aired on SWAC Digital Network as Laron Marbley (play-by-play) and Brian Davis (analyst) will have the call. In addition, fans can tune into WJAB 90.9 FM as Maurice Brooks (play-by-play) and Brian Howard (analyst) will call all the action.

Alabama A&M head coach Connell Maynor said Arkansas-Pine Bluff is a good football team that plays extremely well at home.

"They got a good squad," Maynor said. "They've got a great quarterback and a great wide receiver, not only the best receiver in our conference but probably one of the best receivers in FCS football. On defense, they fly around, non-stop for four quarters. They play well at home. They are a different team at home than they are on the road. We've got to be ready to play."
