AAMU Continues Home Slate against Georgetown

THE HILL | The Alabama A&M University football team seeks back-to-back home victories as the Bulldogs play host to Georgetown (Ky.) on Saturday night inside Louis Crews Stadium. Kickoff against the Tigers is set for 6 p.m.

Alabama A&M (1-1) rebounded from a season-opening loss at Auburn with a 49-7 thumping of Kentucky State in the 14th Annual Louis Crews Classic. The Bulldogs racked up 659 total yards, with nearly 400 of those coming from the air. Quarterback Cornelious Brown IV was named the Louis Crews Classic Offensive MVP after throwing for 278 yards and four touchdowns. Linebacker Cortez Andrews tallied 11 tackles, with six solo stops and one sack to earn LCC Defensive MVP honors.

Georgetown (1-1) is also entering the game looking for its second consecutive victory as the Tigers rallied in the fourth quarter last week to defeat Pikeville, 23-20. Georgetown wide receiver Jamarcus Robinson was selected the Mid-South Conference Football Offensive Player of the Week after catching nine passes for 171 yards and a pair of scores.

The game will be streamed live on the SWAC Digital Network as Ted Dixie (play-by-play) and Reggie Benson (analyst) have the call. In addition, fans can tune into WJAB 90.9 FM as Maurice Brooks (play-by-play) and L. Vann Pettaway (analyst) will call all the action.

Alabama A&M head coach Connell Maynor said the team can't be complacent after just one win and have to keep pushing no matter who the opponent the Bulldogs are playing.

"We can't live off one game. We've got to be able to put the week before you behind you," Maynor said. "We had a good week last week, but we can't live off that week. We've got to go out and score more touchdowns, make more tackles, throw more passes, catch passes and play well again this week. It never changes from week-to-week and continue doing the things that you that made you good.

"They (Georgetown) are a good football program. They were ranked when the preseason polls came out, which means they are a good football program. They can beat most D2 programs. As you know, some D2 programs beat us sometimes. We've got to be ready to play. They're well-coached, disciplined and they don't make a lot of penalties. They are going to be where they are supposed to be, so we are going to have to play well.
