DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. | The Alabama A&M women's basketball team is set to travel to the Sunshine State to take on Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.
The Bulldogs (12-7, 5-2 SWAC) hit the road after going 1-1 this past weekend, dropping a tough 75-65 contest to Texas Southern before recovering with a 59-68 victory over Prairie View A&M on Monday night. Alisha Wilson led the Bulldogs with 17 points, nine rebounds and two blocks. Lauryn Pendleton added 16 points and two steals, while Kalia Walker tallied 11 points of her own.
The Wildcats (6-13, 3-4 SWAC) look to get back into the win column after dropping a pair of contests to Jackson State and Alcorn State. Asianae Nicholson paced B-CU in both games, as she averaged 15 points and 9.5 rebounds over the weekend. Bethune-Cookman, pegged to finish eighth in the Southwestern Athletic Conference Preseason Poll, has picked up conference victories over Grambling, Arkansas Pine Bluff and Mississippi Valley. AAMU leads 5-1 in the overall series with Bethune-Cookman, including wins in the last three meetings. Alabama A&M women's basketball head coach Dawn Thornton is 1-2 in meetings with the Wildcats. Thursday's game is set for 6 p.m. CT and can be live streamed via The CatEye Network on YouTube.
The Rattlers (6-12, 3-4 SWAC) look to recover from a pair of losses to Jackson State and Alcorn State last weekend. Florida A&M fell to the Braves 75-72 in an extra period but saw five Rattlers in double figures at the conclusion of the night, paced by Sabou Geuye's 19 points, seven rebounds, six assists and five steals. The Bulldogs lead 6-1 in the overall series with FAMU, including three consecutive victories in the last three meetings. Coach Thornton is undefeated in games against the Rattlers. Saturdays game will be live streamed on the SWAC Digital Network with Ted Dixie and Vaughn Wilson on the call. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT.
