YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio | The Alabama A&M University women's bowling team wrapped up day 1 at the Chelsea Gilliam Penguin Classic 0-5 in baker play at the Holiday Bowl and are sitting in 14
th place.
The Bulldogs competed against #14 Mount St. Mary's, #6 Arkansas State, #1 Jacksonville State, #4 Youngstown State and Western Illinois.
In the first matchup of the day, the Bulldogs shot their highest baker total of the day. Unfortunately, it was not enough as Mount St. Mary's won 1,045-934.
In a close loss to a ranked opponent, Arkansas State narrowly escaped the upset in an 897-811 win.
Next up was a matchup against the top-ranked team in the country as Jacksonville State claimed the 987-890 victory and in the fourth contest, the Bulldogs dropped a 1,074-847 decision to the reigning defending national champions, Youngstown State. In the final match, AAMU fell to Western Illinois, 902-871.

The Bulldogs continue their tournament at the Chelsea Gilliam Penguins Classic on Saturday morning with five traditional games. The tournament begins at 8:25 a.m. (CT), and admission is free.
