AAMU Opens Weekend with Wins over Alabama State and Maryland Eastern Shore

ORLANDO, Fla. | The Alabama A&M University women's bowling team completed the opening day of the Destination Orlando Tournament by defeating Alabama State and Maryland Eastern Shore at SKY Lanes on Friday.

The Bulldogs went 2-3 during the opening day, competing against No. 11 Maryville, No. 16 Maryland Eastern Shore, Alabama State, No. 17 North Carolina A&T State and No. 5 Wichita State.

In the day's first match, AAMU bowled their first set of baker games against Maryville, losing 897-799, but bounced back in the second match as the Bulldogs took down No. 16 Maryland Eastern Shore, 912-897, which gave AAMU its first win of the season over a ranked opponent.

Alabama A&M followed that performance by rolling a highest baker game total of 221 to defeat conference rival Alabama State, 894-872. However, the Bulldogs dropped their final two matches, falling to No. 17 North Carolina A&T State, 932-876 and No. 5 Wichita State, 950-811.

The Bulldogs return for Day 2 of the Destination Orlando Tournament on Saturday with five traditional games. Tournament play begins at 8:25 a.m. and admission is free.
