THE HILL | The Alabama A&M University football team raced out to an early lead but could not slow down Prairie View A&M as the Panthers scored 48 unanswered points in picking up a 48-5 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) victory on Saturday at Louis Crews Stadium.
Alabama A&M (4-6 overall, 1-5 SWAC) jumped out to a 5-0 lead after a field goal by
David Faulk and a safety. However, the Panthers scored the final 13 points of the half and did not look back.
Neither team was able to move the ball early on, but Alabama A&M got the big play run from
Isaiah Nwokenkwo, who broke free for 40 yards, to set up a 33-yard field goal from
David Faulk as the Bulldogs grabbed a 3-0 lead with 4:54 remaining in the opening quarter.
Prairie View A&M (7-3, 5-1) responded by marching to the AAMU 28, but an Aiden Webb 44-yard field goal attempt sailed left to keep the Bulldogs lead at 3-0.
After a 45-yard punt by
Robert Cole that landed at the PVAMU 1, and
Dimitris Biamby stopped Panthers running back Chase Bingmon in the endzone for a safety as Alabama A&M extended the advantage to 5-0 with 11:54 left in the second period.
The Panthers got on the board with two big plays as quarterback Cameron Peters found Andre Dennis for 40 yards and on the very next play, connected with Ja'Koby Banks for 39 yards as Prairie View A&M grabbed a 7-5 lead with 5:14 remaining.
After another Cole punt landed at the PVAMU 2, the Panthers marched 98 yards, during the final 33 seconds, in just five plays as Peters connected with Jyzaiah Rockwell for ta39-yard touchdown as time expired with the Panthers taking a 13-5 advantage into the half.
Prairie View A&M opened the third quarter by going 71 yards in seven plays as Peters connected with Rockwell in the corner of the endzone for 27 yards as the Panthers stretched their lead to 20-5 with 11:48 left.
The Panthers put the game out of reach late in the third when Rockwell hauled in a 9-yard touchdown pass from Peters to complete an 11-play, 81-yard drive as Prairie View A&M pushed the advantage to 27-5 with 1:16 to play in the period.
PVAMU added another score just 1:01 into the final quarter as Rockwell caught a 40-yard pass from Peters, and two plays later, Dennis rushed 18 yards into the endzone, pushing the lead to 34-5.
After another Bulldog punt, Prairie View A&M needed just two plays to find the endzone as Peters found Chaney Fitzgerald over the middle for a 56-yard touchdown as the Panthers extended the advantage to 41-5.
A Shadrick Byrd 1-yard touchdown run capped the scoring for the Panthers with 3:26 remaining to push the lead to 48-5.

- Alabama A&M finished with 204 total yards, with 103 coming on the ground
- The Bulldogs registered 15 first downs
- Eric Handley went 18 of 36 passing for 101 yards
- Isaiah Nwokenkwo rushed five times for 62 yards
- Travaunta Abner and Myles Parker each caught four passes
- Robert Cole punted the ball 11 times for 480 yards, averaging 43.6 yards per punt
- Robert Iverson Jr. paced the defense with seven total tackles
- Prairie View A&M finished with 607 total yards, including 394 through the air
- The Panthers racked up 27 first downs
- Cameron Peters went 17 of 22 passing for 394 yards and five touchdowns
