Bulldogs Prepare for Final Regular Season Contests

GRAMBLING, La. | The Alabama A&M women's basketball team is set to compete in their final pair of regular season games as they take on the Grambling State Tigers on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and Southern University Jaguars on Saturday at 2:30.

The Bulldogs continue their three-game road swing to end the regular season, after defeating Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) rival Alabama State 71-63 this past weekend. The victory broke yet another record, as it makred the Maroon and White's first 20-win season in the Division I era. The win also proved to be historic as it notched AAMU head coach Dawn Thornton's first 20-win season.

Three Bulldogs finished in double figures in the contest, with Kalia Walker leading the way with 21 points. Alisha Wilson recorded 18 points and 10 rebounds to go along with three blocks and three steals. Lauryn Pendleton added 14 points in the rivalry game.

Grambling returns to Louisiana after a pair of wins against Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman, which earned Kahia Warmsley SWAC Impact Player of the week after her 22-point performance in their slim 55-52 victory over FAMU. Lydia Freeman earned SWAC Newcomer of the Week after dropping 21 points and 12 rebounds against Bethune-Cookman. The Bulldogs and Tigers met just one month ago, when the Bulldogs sailed past them 70-58 at the AAMU Event Center. Kalia Walker paced the Bulldogs with a 23-point performance. Alisha Wilson tallied her 10th double-double of the season by posting 19 points and 12 rebounds and a team-high three steals. Lauryn Pendleton added 11 points and led the team, along with Jaiyah Harris-Smith, with four assists.  Warmsley paced the Tigers with 12 points, while Freeman added 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Jaguars, currently leading the SWAC with a 14-2 conference record, look to continure their seven-game winning streak, not dropping a match since February 1st when they fell 59-54 to Alcorn State in an extra period. The last time the Maroon and White met Southern on the hardwood, Southern claimed a narrow 50-44 victory. Wilson was the lone Bulldog to finish in double figures after scoring 15 points and tacking on 17 rebounds. Depending on the weekend's results, the Bulldogs have potential to hold at least a share of the regular season championship title.

Both Thursday and Friday's games will be double headers with the men's programs. The contest against the Tigers will be live streamed via SWAC Digital Network with Santoria Black and Ossie Clark on the call. Saturday's matinee can be watched via Jaguars Sports Network.
