Three Inducted into 32nd Annual Huntsville-Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | Three former Alabama A&M University student-athletes and coaches – Carlos Matthews, Jeff McCorvey and Tom Pruett – were inducted to the 32nd Annual Huntsville-Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame during a ceremony held on Monday night at the Von Braun Center.

The three former Alabama A&M standouts were among 12 new members enshrined into the 2025 hall of fame class.

Matthews, who attended Huntsville High School and had many offers as a track & field athlete, chose Alabama A&M and was coached by Alabama A&M Hall of Fame and the Huntsville-Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame legendary coach Joe Henderson. During his collegiate career, Matthews helped Alabama A&M win four consecutive Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships, the only men's team in history to do so. He earned All-SIAC honors in three of four competitive seasons and posted top-15 national marks in the long jump.

McCorvey was a longtime bowling coach at Alabama A&M where he coached the program for 16 years. He helped lead the team to a 2006 runner-up finish in the NCAA Tournament and Southwestern Athletic Conference titles in 2007 and 2010. His best team came during the 2006 season where the Bulldogs finished second in the nation, losing to Fairleigh Dickinson in the national championship.

Pruitt, who played at Huntsville High School and at AAMU, served on the Huntsville's soccer coaching staff for more than 20 years. While at Huntsville, his teams only lost two matches and in his senior year, Pruitt played on the only undefeated team Huntsville men have ever had (1985-86). He chose to play at Alabama A&M, helping shape the program

Matthews, McCorvey and Pruett join Courtney Beasley, Bobby Lee Hurt, Tasheika Morris, Israel Raybon, Dwight Scales, Jayson Swain, Dale Palmer, Cecil Hurt and Brian Campe in the 2025 hall of fame class.
