Bulldogs Report: AAMU Wraps Up First Scrimmage of Fall Camp

THE HILL | The Alabama A&M University football program held its first scrimmage during Fall Camp on Saturday inside Louis Crews Stadium, concluding its second week of practices heading into the off day on Sunday.

The defense dominated the first part of the scrimmage as the offense could not get much going during the opening four series' before being able to move the football.

"The intensity and effort on offense, defense and special teams was good," Alabama A&M head coach Sam Shade said. "We tried to limit the mistakes and errors, but we had a couple on both sides. We've got to come back for the second scrimmage next week and not have those same mistakes we had today."

But it was a tale of two periods as the offense found the rhythm they needed, moving the football and concluding the day with four touchdowns. The special teams were on point as well, connecting on one field goal and was perfect on extra points.

"I thought our defense came out fired up and playing hard, limiting the offense," Shade said. "But our offense did respond. I thought the offense got hit in the mouth a little early and came back and responded. I like the fact that they come back and responded with a couple of touchdowns. The defense would step up one series and then the offense would step up. The kicking game was good as well, with guys making field goals."

Saturday's scrimmage was the first of two as the Bulldogs will take the field during Fan Day next Saturday inside Louis Crews Stadium, with the scrimmage slated to begin at 12 p.m.

"We're always excited about playing in front of a crowd and especially our crowd and fans," Shade said. "The message is going to be to the team that this is going to be our biggest crowd before the season opener. I hope our fans will come out and make some noise and have a good time next week."
