THE HILL | Alabama A&M University head women's basketball coach Dawn Thornton just recently celebrated her 125
th career victory and earned the WHoopDirt.com Coach of the Week Honors.
Thornton has guided the program to 11 straight victories in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play and will look to avenge their only league loss on Saturday when the Bulldogs play host to Mississippi Valley State on Saturday during the Love & Basketball/Greek Night game at the AAMU Event Center.
During the 11-game winning streak, Alabama A&M is shooting 42.5 percent from the floor, while the defense is limiting the opponents to 33.0 percent and just under 50.0 points per game. In addition, Alabama A&M has a plus-16.5 scoring margin and is averaging 65.5 points per game.
In the 82-54 home win on Thursday night against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, the Bulldogs used a 21-0 run in the second quarter and didn't look back. The 28-points victory marked the sixth time this season AAMU has won by 20 or more points.
