THE HILL | The Alabama A&M University men's basketball team concludes its home slate with three straight games at the AAMU Event Center, starting on Saturday with the annual Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) rivalry game between the Bulldogs and Alabama State.
Tip-off for Saturday's contest is set for 4 p.m. as Alabama A&M will celebrate Senior Day prior to the start of the game. The Bulldogs will wrap up their home campaign Tuesday against Grambling State and Thursday versus Southern. Both games will tip-off at 7:30 p.m. and all games will be streamed on SWAC TV.
Alabama A&M, 11-3 at home this season, is coming off splitting a pair of games in the Sunshine State. The Bulldogs defeated Florida A&M, before falling to league leaders Bethune-Cookman last Saturday.
AAMU has already secured its first winning season in more than 20 years and has a chance to claim the No. 2 seed in next month's conference tournament.
Alabama State, which is 3-15 away from home this season, enters the contest riding a two-game losing streak after dropping games to Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M last week.
Grambling State, 3-12 in road games this season, will play host to Florida A&M on Saturday before visiting Huntsville on Tuesday. The Tigers have lost five out of their last six games.
Southern, which is tied for the second spot with Alabama A&M in the conference standings, will play host to Bethune-Cookman on Saturday, before visiting Alabama State on Tuesday and close out the season on Thursday in Huntsville. The Jaguars have lost two out of their last three games.
Bulldogs at a Glance
Alabama A&M comes into the weekend averaging 71.0 points and shooting 43.2 percent.
Kintavious Dozier leads four AAMU players in double figures at 15.5 points, while
Koron Davis and
Sami Pissis is averaging 14.2 and 11.1 points, respectively, and
James Graham III is posting 10.0 points per game.
Alabama A&M ranks first in the conference in field goal percentage defense and turnovers per game, while second in fouls per game, free-throws made per game, defensive rebounds per game and scoring defense.
Scouting Alabama State
The Hornets are averaging 73.3 points and shooting 41.6 percent from the floor.
Asjon Anderson leads three ASU players in double figures at 15.7 points, while Micah Simpson and Tyler Byrd are averaging 14.0 and 10.2 points, respectively.
The Hornets rank tops in the league in offensive rebounds per game and rebounds per game. Jerquarius Stanback is first in the SWAC in blocks (31st nationally) and blocks per game (34th nationally).
Scouting Grambling State
The Tigers are shooting 43.9 percent from the floor and averaging 71.1 points per game.
Antonio Munoz leads four GSU players in double figures at 13.0 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists, while Jamil Muttilib is posting 11.3 points and 3.2 boards. Roderick Coffee III and Derrius Ward are averaging 11.0 and 10.5 points, respectively.
The Tigers ranked tops in the conference in scoring defense, while second in three-point percentage defense and rebound margin.
Scouting Southern
The Jaguars are shooting 45.4 percent from the floor and averaging 80.2 points per game.
Michael Jacobs paces the Southern offense at 17.8 points, 5.2 assists, 3.4 boards and 1.8 steals. Malek Abdelgowad is registering 11.1 points and 6.6 rebounds, while DaMariee Jones is recording 10.4 points and 6.9 boards.
Southern leads the SWAC in assist/turnover ratio, scoring margin, steals per game and is second in turnovers per game, turnovers forced per game, turnover margin and scoring offense. Jacobs is the conference leader in assist/turnover ratio and Jones is second in offensive rebounds per game.
Alabama State Series History
This will be the 97
th meeting in this rivalry between the Hornets and the Bulldogs as Alabama State leads the all-time series, 66-30.
AAMU is 4-6 over the last 10 games in the series and is looking to win at home for the first time since a 58-53 victory on March 2, 2024. In addition, the Bulldogs are seeking a sweep of their rivals for the first time since 2005 when AAMU won three straight in the season (Huntsville, Montgomery and Birmingham).
Grambling State Series History
This will be the 48
th meeting between Grambling State and Alabama A&M as the Tigers lead the all-time series, 25-22.
The Bulldogs halted a four-game losing streak in the series on Feb. 9, 2026 with a 66-58 road victory.
Southern Series History
This will be the 55
th meeting between the two programs as Southern leads the all-time series, 34-20.
The Jaguars, who are 12-13 in road games in the series, have won the past three meetings and four out of the last five matchups. The lone AAMU win during that stretch game on March 9, 204 – a 66-56 victory in Huntsville.
