THE HILL | The Alabama A&M University women's basketball team returns to action by taking its eight-game Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) winning streak on the road as the Bulldogs visit Grambling State on Thursday and Southern on Saturday.
Tip-off for Thursday's game is 6:30 p.m. at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday from the F.G. Clark Activity Center. Both games will be streamed on SWAC TV.
Alabama A&M moved into first place in the conference after rolling to a 63-50 victory over Florida A&M on Saturday. The Bulldogs have now won eight straight, which is the longest streak in the program during the Division I era.
Grambling State was in action on Monday and have now lost two straight after a 61-58 setback at Alcorn State. The Tigers back to the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center and are 5-4 at home this season.
Southern, which is 6-0 at home, will play host Alabama State on Thursday before welcoming Alabama A&M to Baton Rouge, La. on Saturday. The Jaguars fell into second place after a 69-56 road loss to Alcorn State on Saturday. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak.
Bulldogs at a Glance
Alabama A&M is averaging 62.0 points per game and shooting 39.5 percent from the floor.
Kalia Walker, who leages the conference and is seventh nationally in free-throw percentage, is registering 13.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.2 steals, while
Moses Davenport is right behind her at 10.8 points, 6.2 boards and 1.0 steals per game. In addition,
Coriah Beck is posting 9.3 points, 3.7 boards and 1.9 assists.
The Bulldogs ranked tops in the conference in numerous categories, including field goal percentage, field goal percentage defense, free-throw attempts per game (12
th nationally), free-throws made per game (26
thnationally), rebound margin, scoring defense and scoring margin.
Scouting Grambling State
The Tigers are shooting nearly 35.4 percent from the floor and averaging 62.6 points per game.
Shaniah Nunn leads the offense at 12.0 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.8 steals, while Monica Marsh is registering 11.1 points, 2.8 boards, 2.9 assists and 2.0 steals.
Grambling State leads the conference is several categories, including assist/turnover ratio, assists per game, offensive rebounds per game, steals per game and turnovers forced per game.
Nunn leads the SWAC in double-doubles, rebounds and rebounds per game, while Marsh is tops in three-point attempts.
Scouting Southern
The Rattlers are averaging 61.0 points and shooting 37.9 percent from the floor.
DeMya Porter paces the Jaguar offense at 10.3 points and 5.1 boards per game, while Jaylia Reed is averaging 8.3 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists.
Southern leads the conference in steals per game (39
th nationally), turnover margin and turnovers per game.
Mykayla Cunningham and Reed are tops in the conference in assist/turnover ratio and three-point percentage, respectively.
Grambling State Series History
This will be the 35
th meeting between the two programs as Grambling State leads the all-time series, 21-13.
The two teams split last season's matchups and the Tigers have won three out of the last four games in the series. The last AAMU win in Grambling came on March 2, 2023 – a 55-50 victory.
Southern Series History
This will be the 42
nd meeting between the Bulldogs and Jaguars as Southern has owned the series, winning five out of the last eight games. Southern leads the all-time series, 30-11, and have a 17-3 advantage in games played in Baton Rouge, La.
The series has been even over the last 10 games, with Alabama A&M claiming a 48-35 victory on March 8, 2025.
