CHAMPIONS FOR THE FOURTH TIME IN PROGRAM HISTORY

Ugbinada Selected SWAC Women’s Bowling Tournament MVP

ARLINGTON, Texas | It was most intense eight hours on Sunday for the Alabama A&M University women's bowling team as the Bulldogs stunned top-ranked Jackson State in the elimination bracket and then rolled past Alabama State, 4-1, in the championship to win the program's fourth Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Bowling Tournament title.

"I am just so proud of this team," Alabama A&M head coach James Moore said. "This was just an unbelievable day and an incredible run."

The tournament title marked the first time since 2014 that Alabama A&M claimed the crown and the fourth time in school history (2007, 2010, 2014, 2026). Fans will have the opportunity to welcome the team back from Arlington on Monday at the Student Health & Wellness Center on campus. The team is scheduled to arrive at 9:30 a.m.

The Bulldogs had an incredible tournament, opening with a 2-1 win over Southern before losing to Jackson State in the quarterfinals. In the elimination bracket, Alabama A&M defeated Florida A&M (2-1), Texas Southern (2-1) and Jackson State (2-1).

It wasn't an easy path on Sunday though, the Bulldogs were down 3-0 in baker play against the Tigers and won four straight just to get to reach the championship match against the rival Hornets.

Alabama State took the opening round, but it was all Alabama A&M after that as the Bulldogs rolled to four straight victories to claim the title. In the deciding 10th frame of the fifth round, tournament MVP and All-SWAC Tournament Team honoree, Rose Ugbinada, solidified the title by rolling a spare and followed that with a strike to knock off Alabama State.

Alabama A&M, which earned the SWAC's automatic qualifier, now turns its attention the 2026 NCAA Bowling Tournament. The 2026 National Collegiate Bowling Selection Show will air on Wednesday at 3 p.m. (CT) on NCAA.com. The regionals will be held April 2-4, with the semifinals and finals set for April 10 and 11.
