BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Vicente Rodriguez posted a final round 3-under par 69 on Wednesday to win the 2026 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Men's Golf Championship individual title at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley.
Rodriguez, who was third after two rounds, recorded six birdies, including back-to-back at No. 11 and No. 12.. He had one bogey (No. 9) and a double bogey (No. 6). The El Dorado Hills, Calif. native held off Texas Southern's Yashal Shah, who was the only other golfer to finish under par (1 under).
"I think what pushed me through today was being patient." Rodriguez, who celebrates his first win for Alabama A&M, said. "I just wanted to take it one shot at a time. I didn't really think about the others in contention, but about being present in the moment and not doubting myself."
Rodriguez, who ranked seventh in the conference standings, was selected earlier in the week as a member of the All-SWAC Postseason Second Team.
In addition to Rodriguez being the low medalist, Alabama A&M head coach
Devins Jackson was named the Coach of the Year.
"I am very excited to receive such an honor," Jackson said. "The real credit goes to these student-athletes and the work they do each time they hit the course. In our first team meeting this Fall. I shared with the team our goal is to get better one season at a time. We should wake up every day wanting to be better than we were yesterday."
Samuel Boddie, who finished tied for 12
th, registered birdies at No. 2 and No. 3, but had six bogeys finish the round at 4 over.
Lukas Lange, who was tied for 18
th, was 3 over during the final round, posting two birdies and four bogeys.
Kourey Patterson and
James Fujita rounded out the individual scoring tied for 32
nd and tied for 34
th, respectively.
Alabama A&M finished the tournament shooting 33-over par 897 to finish sixth. Arkansas-Pine Bluff won the team title, firing an 876, while Florida A&M was second at 880. Prairie View A&M placed third (889), followed by Texas Southern (892) and Alabama State (894). Jackson State (927) and Southern (928) rounded out the eight-team field.
