BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | It was a banner day of accolades for Alabama A&M University freshman running back Byron Perrilliat, who received his third weekly honor on Monday by being named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
 
Perrilliat, who was chosen the FCS National Freshman Player of the Week and HBCU Co-Player of the Week, earned the honor after delivering a career performance in Alabama A&M's 40-21 victory over Florida A&M in the Bulldogs' SWAC opener.
 
The Jefferson, La., native rushed for a career-high 223 yards and two touchdowns on just 16 carries, averaging 13.9 yards per attempt.
 
Perrilliat was especially effective in the fourth quarter after Florida A&M cut Alabama A&M's lead to 23-21. The freshman running back responded with a pair of touchdown runs to help the Bulldogs put the game away.
 
He scored on a 15-yard run to extend the Alabama A&M advantage before breaking loose for a 22-yard touchdown later in the quarter. The two scores helped the Bulldogs close the game with 17 unanswered points.
 
Perrilliat's 223 rushing yards marked the most by an Alabama A&M player since 2019 and represented one of the top individual rushing performances by a Bulldog in recent seasons.
 
Alabama A&M returns to action Saturday when the Bulldogs face Jackson State in the annual Gulf Coast Challenge. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala., with the game streamed on SWAC TV.
