Bobby Turner is entering his sixth season as a member of the Alabama A&M football coaching staff, serving as the tight ends coach, recruiting coordinator and Pro Football Liason.
In five season, Turner’s tight end group hauled in a collective 100 receptions for 1,244 yards and 13 touchdowns through 49 total games and compiling a 38-15 record with one conference title.
Â
The Bulldogs finished the spring 2021 season with a 5-0 record and taking home the SWAC and HBCU National Championship for the first time in program history.Â
Individually, a pair of Turner’s tight ends earned accolades as both Anthony Howard and Kendric Johnson earned Phil Steele Preseason All-SWAC honors, along with Johnson being named All-SWAC Second Team in 2019.
Before coming to Alabama A&M, Turner spent the 2018 season at North Carolina Central as the tight ends coach. During the 2018 season, Turner coached Shermon McLeod, who led all MEAC tight ends in receiving yards and touchdowns while earning all-MEAC honors.
Â
Turner served as a graduate assistant and video coordinator at NCCU from 2014-16 under head coach Jerry Mack. After earning his master’s degree in athletic administration from NCCU, he accepted another graduate assistant position at Bowling Green State University in 2017, working with the defensive line.
Â
During the spring of 2018, Turner worked as linebackers and special teams coach at Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Â
A native of Cartersville, Ga., Turner graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in health and human performance. Due to injury, Turner’s playing career was cut short and he began student coaching with the offensive staff, as well as assisting with video operations.
