Corey Barlow, who played collegiate football under legendary coach Pat Dye at Auburn, is entering his first season as the Cornerbacks coach at Alabama A&M University.
Barlow, who has more than 22 years of successfully recruiting, signing and coaching collegiate and high school football players, comes to Alabama A&M after serving three seasons as the defensive backs coach at South Carolina State.
While at S.C. State, Barlow was part of the squad that defeated Jackson State in the 2021 Celebration Bowl and won the HBCU Black College National Championship. That year saw two of his cornerbacks, DeCobie Durant and Zafir Kelly, receive First Team All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) honors. DeCobie was also named the MEAC Defensive Player of the Year and was selected by the Los Angeles Rams in the fourth round of the NFL draft.
Before coming to South Carolina State, Barlow spent two seasons as the defensive coordinator at Southwest Mississippi Junior College, where he coached Demarcus Mitchell, who is now a defensive end with the New England Patriots.
Prior to Southwest JC, Barlow was the defensive coordinator at Faulkner University after serving as the defensive coordinator and secondary coach at Savannah State.
While at SSU, Barlow’s defense allowed fewer total points and less yardage than its immediate predecessor in the 2017 squad. He also previously served as the interim head coach at Savannah State in 2013.
Before his tenure at Savannah State, Barlow spent five years as the cornerbacks coach at the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB).
Barlow also spent a year as the defensive backs coach at the University of Rhode Island and four years at Morehouse College.
A native of Atlanta, Ga., Barlow is a former All-American cornerback at Auburn University where he played under legendary head coach Pat Dye. He lettered four years (1988-1991), and holds a spot on Auburn’s All-Decade team for the 1990’s. In addition, Barlow was a captain of that 1991 Auburn team, a year in which he earned Most Valuable Defensive Player.
During his four years at Auburn, Barlow was part of a team that won two SEC championships. He also earned First Team All-SEC honors in 1990 and 1991 and garnered All-American accolades as a senior following the 1991 season. He played in the 1988 Sugar Bowl, 1989 Hall
of Fame Bowl and 1990 Peach Bowl. After his senior season, Barlow played in the Blue -Gray All-Star Game and the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala.
The Philadelphia Eagles selected Barlow in the fifth round of the 1992 NFL Draft.
Barlow is married to the former Tia Reid of Greensboro, Ga., and the couple has three daughters, SeCori (34), Kai (14) and Kherington (12).
