Jeremy Austin begins his first season as the defensive ends coach at Alabama A&M University.
Austin comes to Alabama A&M after serving as the defensive line coach at Birmingham Southern during the 2023 season.
While at Birmingham Southern, Austin coached standout athletes Rickey Spence and Jaden Hood. Spence broke the school record for single-season sacks (11) and tackles for loss (18.5), while being ranked second in the SAA in those categories. He was selected First Team All-SAA, Second Team All-Region (Hansen Ratings) and Third Team All-Region (D3Football.com). Hood broke the school record for individual single-game sacks (four) and was selected Freshman All-American (Hansen Ratings).
Before BSC, Austin spent the 2022 season at Mississippi Valley State as the defensive line coach.
At MVSU, Austin coached and developed All-SWAC edge rusher Ronnie Thomas, who signed with the Calgary Stampeders. Under Austin, Thomas broke MVSU single season sack record with 10.5, led the SWAC in total sacks, total TFLs and placed 5th in FCS for TFLs total and per as well as 4th in FCS Sacks total and per.
Before the individual success at MVSU he spent two seasons with the Charlotte 49ers as Defensive Grad Assistant/Assistant Defensive Line Coach.
Prior to his stint at UNC Charlotte, the Columbia, South Carolina native was the Quality Control and Assistant Defensive Line Coach as well as Video Coordinator at Wofford College (FCS) from 2020-21.
Upon completion of his undergraduate degree, Austin also interned with the Gamecocks' recruiting department in 2017. Austin began his career at Cardinal Newman High School in his hometown over three seasons as Varsity Outside Linebackers Coach and JV Defensive Coordinator (2014-17).
