Kenyatta McCoy is entering his first season as a member of the Alabama A&M football coaching staff.
McCoy joins the Alabama A&M staff as cornerbacks coach.
Before coming to Alabama A&M, McCoy spent the previous five seasons at North Carolina Central, where he coached cornerbacks and also served as the program’s recruiting coordinator.
During his tenure at North Carolina Central, McCoy coached a secondary that held opponents to 189.54 passing yards per game with 79 pass breakups and 11 interceptions.
While at North Carolina Central, McCoy helped develop a defense that was exceptionally good during clutch situations. During his tenure, North Carolina Central was ranked sixth nationally in red zone defense, and seventh nationally in third-down defense.
In each season with McCoy on the coaching staff, North Carolina Central’s defense saw improvement.
By 2016, North Carolina Central become the nation’s 16th-best pass defense, and by 2018, the program’s third-down defense climb to a No. 2 national ranking.
While at North Carolina Central, McCoy coached a two-time all-MEAC cornerback in Mike Jones, and a two-time all-American cornerback in Ryan Smith, who also was selected in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft.
