After graduating from Winthrop High School in Ohio, Lawal played an extra prep year at Hargrave Military Academy (VA) … In his lone year with the Tigers, he averaged 12 points, 14 rebounds and 5 blocks per game ... The center led the Virginia Independent Conference in rebounds and blocks on the year and was voted the conference’s Best Defensive Player.

Originally born in Nigeria, Lawal came to America at just 14 years old to attend Withrow high school in Cincinnati, Ohio before transferring to Walnut Hills High School ... The big man picked up offers from Akron, Cleveland State, Miami (Ohio) and Stony Brook out of high school before completing a year of prep school ball at Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia ... Legal guardian is Henry Ugboaja ... Lawal has five siblings in his home country of Nigeria and three in the United State ... will major in Business here on The Hill.
