Nyla Johnson joined the Alabama A&M women’s basketball coaching staff in 2017 as a graduate assistant.
Johnson began coaching in 2015 as a student assistant at Faulkner, where she played four seasons of college basketball.
After working one season at Faulkner, Johnson returned to her high school alma mater in north Alabama, where she spent one season as an assistant coach at Madison Academy for coach Brian Privett. During that season, Madison Academy reached the Class 4A semifinals of the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s state tournament.
Before making the transition to coaching, Johnson was a standout player. She played four seasons at Faulkner from 2011-15.
Before signing with Faulkner, Johnson starred at Madison Academy, where she was an all-state player who was part of three straight Class 3A state titles from 2009-11.
