Mbandi is a native of Kenya where he experienced much success prior to coming to the states for college. Mbandi was crowned the Kenya National Junior Champion in 1999 and was captain of the Kenya Junior team. He also participated in the International Tennis Federation African Junior Championships that same year.

Willis then came to the state of Alabama after receiving a tennis scholarship to play at AAMU for the man he is replacing, Thomas Colvin.

While in Bulldog country Mbandi was a scholar-athlete who made the dean’s list during his entire four year collegiate career. He closed out his college days graduating magna cum laude with a bachelor in Business Administration with a concentration in Management Information Systems.

The native Kenyan worked at the Garret Tennis Academy where he taught lessons and led camps. Upon graduating from A&M, Mbandi continued to work at the Garret Tennis Academy.

Mbandi also served on the board for the Huntsville Area Tennis Association from 2009-2011. After serving on the HATA board, Mbandi became the tennis director and head pro at the Dublin Tennis Center in Madison, Alabama.

This will be Mbandi’s first head coaching position of his professional career.
