Brandon McLaren broke a 36-year-old Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championship record in the decathlon in shattering the previous mark by more than 150 points at A.W. Mumford Stadium.
McLaren, who finished inside the top three in nearly every event in the decathlon, held off Arkansas-Pine Bluff's Che Rochford to win the event with 6,937 points. His mark broke the previous conference record of Wesley Francis (6,776 points), of Grambling State, in 1988. In addition, he also set a personal and school record, breaking Nathan Stephens mark of 6,321 points set in 2010.
