Box Score / GRAMBLING, La. -- Alabama A&M's woes playing at Grambling continued Saturday as the Tigers defeated the Bulldogs 41-20 inside Eddie Robinson Stadium. The Bulldogs led 10-7 after the first quarter after backup quarterback Deaunte Mason ran for his first career touchdown, a 66-yard scamper down the sideline that gave A&M the lead with 5:26 to play in the first. The Tigers, however, responded to outscore A&M 31-3 over the second and third quarters to put the game out of reach.
Mason and starting quarterback Kevin Atkins were used interchangably throughout the game with Mason finishing the game with 122 yards rushing to lead the Bulldogs. Mason finished the game 10-20 for 107 yards through the air, throwing his first career touchdown to Quintin Carlock for the Bulldogs' final score of the game. The touchdown was also Carlock's first career score. Atkins was 5-14 for 69 yards and an interception.
The SWAC's leading rusher, Ulysses Banks, was injured on the first play of the second quarter with an ankle injury and did not return to the game. Banks finished with 26 yards on six carries.
Grambling took its opening drive 88 yards on four plays to take the lead 7-0 with 11:56 to play in the first quarter. Alabama A&M responded with an 11-play drive that ended with a 29-yard Jeremy Licea field goal, and then took the lead on its next possession with Mason's 66-yard score. After a Grambling touchdown gave the Tigers the lead 14-10, Licea cut the lead to 14-13 with a 26-yard field goal with 10:18 to play in the first half.
Grambling scored the next 24 points to put the game away by the end of the third quarter.
For the second week in a row, Vernon Marshall led the A&M defense with 11 tackles (10 solo).
Alabama A&M is now 4-2 on the season and 1-1 in the SWAC. The Bulldogs head to Alcorn State next Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. kick.
