Wet and Wild, Bulldogs and Banks Rule on Homecoming, 28-7

Senior tailback sets touchdown record

Box Score / Ulysses Banks broke Barry Wagner's career touchdown mark on the opening drive Saturday, setting the tone for an Alabama A&M cruise past Arkansas-Pine Bluff on a rainy and saturated Homecoming day at Louis Crews Stadium.  Banks scored on a six-yard run with 10:10 to play in the first quarter to give the Bulldogs the lead for good and himself a 24th career touchdown.  He added a 25th on a three-yard run just before the end of the first quarter to give A&M a 14-0 lead.  The senior All-America finished the day with 177 yards on 34 carries.

The combination of Banks and a smothering Bulldog defense made a drenched home crowd never have to doubt whether this would be a happy Homecoming or not.  The Bulldogs held UAPB to 157 total yards, mostly coming well after the game was decided, and seven first downs. The Golden Lions rushed for 10 yards on 16 carries.

The A&M offense held the ball for just under 39 of the game's 60 minutes and ran 30 more plays from scrimmage that did UAPB.

Thomas Harris caught a 23-yard pass from Kevin Atkins to give A&M a 21-0 lead with 3:26 remaining in the first half.  Harris finished with five catches for 51 yards.  Atkins, who later threw a second touchdown pass to Jared Bing for the only score of the second half, finished 16-25 for 218 yards and an interception.  Bing's touchdown was the first of his career.

The win pushes A&M to 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in the SWAC heading to next week's Circle City Classic matchup with Tuskegee in Indianapolis.
