BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The eight-team SWAC volleyball tournament field has been set with Alabama A&M (SWAC East) and Prairie View A&M (SWAC West) earning No. 1 seeds.

Jackson State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff earned No. 2 seeds, while Mississippi Valley State and Southern earned No. 3 seeds. Alabama State and Texas Southern round out the field with No. 4 seeds.

The top four teams in each division, seeded by conference record, qualify for the league tournament. Alabama A&M and Mississippi Valley State earned the No. 1 and No. 3 seeds in the East under the SWAC tie-breaker format. Jackson State still has one conference match left, a contest against Alcorn State on Tuesday, Nov. 16. The tournament begins on Fri., Nov. 19, with the title match taking place on Nov. 20.

The Bulldogs (12-10, 7-1 SWAC East) won the league’s Eastern Division for the third straight year. Alabama A&M will play the No. 4 seed from the west, Texas Southern, on Friday, Nov. 19 at 11 a.m. Texas Southern enters the tournament with a 5-18 (3-5 SWAC West) mark.

The Panthers of Prairie View A&M (12-17, 8-0 SWAC West) won the league’s Western Division and will play No. 4 Alabama State on Friday, Nov. 19 at 11 a.m. The Hornets enter the tournament with an 11-19 (3-5 SWAC East) record.

The 2/3 contest has Eastern Division No. 2 seed Jackson State (24-11, 6-1 SWAC East) taking on Western Division No. 3 seed Southern (13-15, 4-4 SWAC West). The match will take place on Friday, Nov. 19 at 9 a.m. When the two teams met earlier this year, the Tigers took a pair of 3-0 victories at home and on the road.

The other 2/3 matchup pits No. 2 Arkansas-Pine Bluff (6-22, 5-3 SWAC West) against No. 3 Mississippi Valley State (21-9, 3-5 SWAC East) on Friday, Nov. 19 at 9 a.m. The two teams matched up on Sept. 30 and Oct. 12, with the Devilettes coming out on top in both decisions 3-2 and 3-0 respectively.

Alabama State University in Montgomery, Ala. will serve as host for the tournament. The champion receives the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship.
