Bulldogs push Georgia Tech into 21 Turnovers

Box Score

NORMAL –  The Yellow Jackets hadn’t played a game in nine days and it showed as the Bulldog basketball team forced Georgia Tech into 21 turnovers their season high.  Unfortunately A&M came 11 points shy of a win falling 65-54.

"We played the way I wanted with energy and the pressure defense,” said head coach Willie Hayes. “I kind of challenged those guys after that Michigan game. We played well in the first half and didn't give effort in the second.

“I challenged our guys and said, “Listen, we're going to Georgia Tech, and I want to see what kind of effort we're going to put forth,' and they gave me that,” Hayes continued. “I was pleased with the way we played, didn't like the outcome, but pleased with the way we played."

Georgia Tech (7-4) won their third straight despite turning the ball over on four of their first six possessions and 21 times overall. Georgia Tech trailed 10-5 eight minutes in.

Despite the poor start, GT rebounded behind its defense.

"When you're missing your leading rebounder and your second leading scorer, Demarquelle Tabb, who didn't play because of back spasms and an ankle problem,” Hayes mentioned. “He's a double-double guy for us. Missing him really hurt us on the boards. We had to play with the little guys and they did a good job."

The Yellow Jackets, who held their previous three opponents to 35-percent shooting or worse, held the Bulldogs (2-5) to 20-for-57 shooting (35.1 percent.) Georgia Tech took advantage of the misses, outrebounding Alabama A&M 47-22.

Jeremy Ingram scored 14 points off the bench to lead the Bulldogs, who tied the game early in the second half. Alabama A&M's Brandon Ellis knotted it at 25-25 on a layup with 18:44 remaining.

The Bulldogs will travel to Nashville, Tenn. for a 7 p.m. contest versus the Tigers of Tennessee State University on Wednesday, December 21.  The game can be heard “Live” on WJAB 90.9 FM
