Lady Bulldogs soccer team records second win of the season

Box Score

Baton Rouge-The game started off slow, as both teams came out flat with surprisingly lethargic efforts.

The Lady Bulldogs controlled majority of possessions in the first half but were unable to get many decent scoring opportunities. Of their nine first half shots, only four hit on frame to force saves from the Southern University goalkeeper.

Similarly, their opponent the Lady Jaguars were able to get minimal scoring chances. Starting keeper Linda Aboagye had little work to do to keep a clean sheet.

The second half proved to be a different game, as both teams began to play with renewed energy. After back and forth action on both halves of the field, the Maroon and White was able to strike first with 18 minutes left to play. Diana Amoafo drew a foul on the edge of the SU 18 yard box and then freshman Ana Huertas nailed a beautifully taken free kick. Huertas curled the ball up and over the wall of players to beat the Lady Jags keeper.

The A&M attack did not stop there, after opening up scoring AAMU found the net twice before the game’s end. Just three minutes after goal one, senior Nycole Henderson beat the keeper for her fourth goal of the season assisted by juniors Diana Amoafo and Jana’ Slay. Huertas closed out scoring by netting her second goal of the game and fourth of the season with under ten minutes left on the game clock.

After the 3-0 win over Southern University, the Lady Bulldogs improved to 2-13 on the season.

A&M will be back in action Sunday, October 21st when they take on Jackson State University.
