NORMAL -- The Bulldogs dropped their sixth game of the season with a 71-46 loss to the Commodores of Vanderbilt University Saturday night.

The Bulldogs shot nine of 25 from the field in the first half and six of 21 in the second to fall to Vanderbilt University 71-46.

“The Commodores played their usual style which is very aggressive and our guys had to adjust to that,” said head coach Willie Hayes.  “Vanderbilt played hard all night long and we didn’t.”

Junior Demarquelle Tabb scored 10 points and pulled in seven rebounds while Brandon Ellis hit his average of 10 points in 31 minutes to lead A&M.

VU scored the opening basket and never looked back holding a slim lead throughout the first half.  A&M played a half court style offense which matched the Commodores offense to keep the lead within single digits. Unfortunately the Maroon & White could not sink their shots as Vanderbilt went on a 5-2 run in the final two minutes and 59 seconds to take a 31-22 halftime lead.

The second half did not fare well for the Bulldog as the aggressive play wore down the slimmer players from Normal resulting in two of eight from the three-point line and 10-15 from the charity stripe.

The Commodores outscored A&M 26-18 in points in the paint, 16-3 in points off turnovers, 17-11 in second chance points and 6-2 in fast break opportunities.  The Bulldogs won the bench points battle 12-10 for the first time since the Oakwood contest.

Vanderbilt’s Kedren Johnson led the team with 19 points while Rod Odom scored 17.  Josh Henderson added 13 points and five rebounds to lead VU to their fourth win of the year.

A&M will welcome Missouri State University to Elmore gymnasium for their final non-conference home game on Tuesday, December 18th.  It will be Bulldog Holiday Hoops celebration on “The Hill”.  Special ticket prices will be $1.00 general admission and $5 reserved.  Fans are asked to wear their A&M paraphernalia on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
