Barry Wagner Named to Arena Football Hall of Fame

NORMAL – Former Alabama A&M football great Barry Wagner was recently inducted into the Arena Football League Hall of Fame.

Voted the number two greatest player in AFL history by the AFL historical committee in 2006, Wagner was selected Ironman of the year a record six consecutive season from 1992-1997.

Wagner cemented his place in AFL history by claiming virtually every record a position player could own.  He recorded more than 13,000 receiving yards and nearly 1000 catches to go with nine kick return touchdowns and 127 rushing touchdowns, not to mention the 265 receiving touchdowns he hauled in over the course of his 16-year career.

“Wags” was also a shutdown corner who collected 47 interceptions, 14 fumble recoveries and more than 650 tackles.

Barry played on “The Hill” from 1986-1989.  During the 1989 season Wagner set the then Division II record of 112 receptions in a season.
