Maroon handles White in Annual Volleyball Showcase

Normal-- Bulldog Nation was able to get a preview of the 2012 AAMU volleyball team when the Maroon team defeated the White team 25-22 and 25-11 in the annual volleyball Maroon & White game.

Wednesday night’s match was a seesaw battle between the home White team and the guest Maroon team. For the Maroon team 6’2 middle blocker, Bianca Richardson recorded eight kills and two block assists in two sets. Senior Clarissa Moore helped aid the Maroon team to victory with five kills.

In a losing effort, Ashley Forman led the White team in assists with five, to go along with her three kills. Also making an imprint on the White team was junior, middle blocker Leslie Ekpe of Lewisville, Texas. Ekpe had two kills, a block assist, and a solo block in tonight’s scrimmage for the home team.

Tonight’s contest was an excellent way for Coach Nedra Brown to view the team in a game setting, allowing her to analyze the strong points within the team as well as the tweaks that can be made in preparation for A&M’s season opener.

“They were some things I wanted to see but I didn’t,” Brown mentioned. “When you have to tell the team to get a 6’2 player involve then that’s an issue.”

“We want to get better each game,” said Brown. “My main focus is to stay up, I don’t want the team to get down no matter what happens. Staying up and keep fighting is our goal during the Belmont invitational.”

The Lady Bulldogs will open the 2012 campaign this Friday, Aug. 24, as they take on tournament host, Belmont University at the Belmont Invitational in Nashville Tenn.
