MARTIN - The Alabama A&M volleyball team fell to Tennessee-Martin three games to one 25-22, 11-25, 14-25, and 16-25 at Skyhawk Fieldhouse, Tuesday evening.
Clairissa Moore led the Lady Bulldogs with 11 kills on the evening, while Leslie Ekpe added 10. Ashley Forman had a game high of 32 assists. RebeccaCortez collected 15 digs and Bianca Richardson had four blocks as both young ladies lead A&M on defense.
“We played very well in the first set decreasing our unforced errors to only two,” A&M head coach Nedra Brown said.
In the first set, A&M took control by winning 25-22.
The Lady Bulldogs overcame an early deficit in the second set when Ekpe knotted the score at three-all. However, a UT-Martin rally reeled off eight straight points. A kill by Mary Carmen broke the UT-Martin 8-0 run, which made the score 11-4.
The Maroon and White tallied three kills with a -.143 hitting percentage in the second set.
“It was just the opposite in the next three sets,” said Brown. “We had 10, 13, and 10 unforced errors and you can’t beat anyone when you’re beating yourself.”
For the game A&M tallied 38 kills on 125 attacks with a .144 hitting percentage.
AAMU will host SWAC foe Alcorn State University in their first conference contest of 2012 in the T. M. Elmore Gymnasium on Friday, September 21st.
