Normal- The Alabama A&M men and women’s indoor track teams kicked off the new year by participating in the 14th annual Ed Temple Classic, Saturday in Nashville, Tennessee.
The Bulldogs competed against eight schools at the Tennessee State University hosted meet. Participating teams included host TSU,local programs Austin Peay, Lipscomb and Middle Tennessee as well as Southern University, with regional teams Florida A&M, Jackson State, Alabama State, Bethel and Victory University (Memphis).
The Maroon and White had a solid showing in their first meet of the new year, and second of the 2012-13 season. A&M recorded nine top 10 finishes in various events. Top Bulldogs performances include three top five finishes, two coming from the men’s team and one from the women.
In the men’s weight throw Gavin Burks (11.93m) and Joaquennsi Eugene (11.73m) took fourth and fifth place respectively. Senior Shaquina Phalo had the highest Bulldog finish of the meet, taking third place in the women’s 800 meter run with a time of 2:23.75.
The Maroon & White indoor track teams will be back in action February 2nd when they return to Nashville, Tennessee to participate in the TSU invitational.
