Tough Tie for Lady Bulldog Soccer

Box Score
Pine Bluff- The Alabama A&M soccer team earned their third point of the season on a tough 1-1 tie versus the Lady Golden Lions of Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

The Lady Bulldogs did everything right; they came out with a great will to win and an intense energy. The Maroon & White dominated the game early controlling the flow of action by maintaining overwhelming possession of the ball.

A&M took the lead within the first 20-minutes of play on a screamer from freshman Estelle Esperance. Esperance received a ball on the top-right corner of the 18-yard box and slammed the ball past UAPB keeper into the left side netting.

After taking the lead, the Maroon & White did not let up; they did just the opposite. They played ferocious defense and an impressive offensive game that saw them out shoot their opponent. The half would end with a lone goal on the scoreboard in favor of the Lady Bulldogs.

The second half picked up right where the first left off. A&M again came out with high energy and an amazing will to win. Despite being outplayed the entire first half and into the second period, the Lady Golden Lions would not hand the game over without a fight. UAPB picked up their play and began taking control. This period was an all out fight; A&M fighting to hold on to their lead, and Pine Bluff fighting to salvage a share of the points on their home turf.

The score line would change with just six minutes left in regulation. UAPB got on the board with a goal of their own changing the outcome of the game that appeared to be three-points for the visiting Lady Bulldogs. The goal forced overtime and a longer stay in Pine Bluff for A&M.

In their third overtime game of the season, the Maroon & White again were unable to come up with a sudden death winner. A&M keeper Marissa Oehler did everything in her power to keep the Golden Lions from victory, coming up with multiple saves on the day. They would take a share of the points after 110-minutes of play, ending the game 1-1.

A&M will return to action in search of their first win, this Sunday, October 20, at Grambling State, kicking off at 1:00 p.m.
