Volleyball Blanks UAPB, 3-0

HUNTSVILLE --- The Lady Bulldogs (7-17, 6-4 SWAC) continue to collect conference wins as they swept the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff 3-0 in their Annual Dig Pink Match at T.M. Elmore Gym on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Ashundria McNeal headlined A&M's performance as she tallied 14 kills and hit .273 on the afternoon to help pace the Lady Bulldogs to the straight set, 25-18, 25-17, 25-15 victory. McNeal also lead A&M with 11 digs and added four service aces.  

Junior Courtney Oliver followed McNeal with six kills, three service aces and two digs. Sophomore Jaelin Gant tallied 10 digs, four kills, and one service ace. Freshman Terra Brooks added seven digs, four kills, and one block solo. Collectively, the Lady Bulldogs hit .241 on the day to dominate the Lady Lions.

At the net, junior Riley Balsmeyer led the Lady Bulldogs with 23 assists and sophomore Rebecca Pierce contributed 10 digs and three service aces.

"The team is moving forward in the direction that we need to be in this moment," commented head coach Rose Powell. "The system is starting to work a little better and our younger players are starting to get comfortable in their positions on the court. As we continue on into the season, I believe we will continue to see better things from them."

AAMU won the first set 25-18 behind four kills from McNeal and Oliver, six assists from Balsmeyer and three digs from Gant. In set two – a 25-17 win – McNeal led the way with seven kills while Brooks and Jones each threw down two kills. Balsmeyer handed out eight assists, and Gant racked up five digs. The Lady Bulldogs secured the win with a 25-15 triumph in the third set as McNeal led the set with three kills and five digs.
