Women's Basketball Drops Season Opener to Western Kentucky

Box Score
Bowling Green, Ky. --- The Alabama A&M University women's basketball team took to the court Friday night in non-conference action against Western Kentucky in Bowling Green, Ky.  Coaching her first game for the Lady Bulldogs was head coach Margaret Richards, former WKU assistant coach. Unfortunately for the Lady Bulldogs, they would drop their season opener to the Lady Toppers 32-96.

Opening the first quarter, WKU started off strong as they jumped out to an 8-0 lead. A Lady Topper foul would send Junior Hilary Williams (Pelham, Ala.) to the free-throw line for A&M's first two points of the game. Freshman La'Kashia Hill (Eufaula, Ala.) followed with two jumpers before classmate Lauren McKee (Mobile, Ala.) pulled down a rebound to assist Williams with a layup.

With the Lady Bulldogs trailing by eight, WKU forced an AAMU turnover followed by a layup to end the first with a 20-10 lead. From there, the Lady Toppers kept extending their lead to the eventual final of 32-96 and a Lady Bulldogs Loss.

Freshman Jameica Cobb (Madison, Fl.) led AAMU with 10 points, while Williams chipped in with eight. Cobb and Junior Shakira Logan (Collins, Miss) shared the team lead with two assists apiece.

Among the 11 turnovers forced by AAMU, five were the result of A&M steals. Williams lead with two steals while Hill and Freshman Juliette Akinwole (Dallas, Tex.) shared one steal apiece. Logan paced the Lady Bulldogs with six rebounds.

The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action on Monday as they travel to Murray, Ky. for a 6 p.m. matchup with the host Murray State Lady Racers.
