Southern Miss fends off Bulldog rally

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- A 13-point halftime deficit was just a little too much Monday for the Bulldogs to overcome.

But they gave it a great shot.

Trailing 40-27 at the break, the Bulldogs went on a 18-7 run in the first 10 minutes of the second half to cut the Southern Miss lead to 47-45.

However, the Golden Eagles responded with a 8-0 run over the next three minutes en route to a 63-55 win over Alabama A&M.

Once again, De'Ederick Petty led the Bulldogs in scoring. The freshman scored 10 points for A&M; he has been the Bulldogs' top scorer in all four games this season.

Rakiya Battle had seven points and five assists.

The Bulldogs visit Murray State on Saturday. Tipoff is 7 p.m.
